TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Dartmouth men's tennis team concluded its weekend in Alabama with another 4-3 victory, this time over a previously undefeated LSU on Sunday.
Â
"Our guys are proving to be tough and gritty early in the season," head coach
Xander Centenari said. "Beating two good SEC teams on the road is not easy. We still have some things to build on, including consolidating leads when we get them. But we're doing a good job dealing with momentum shifts in these matches.
Â
"We are of the mindset that we have to go and take these matches and that they won't be given to us," Centenari continued. "That is the mindset deep in sets and on deuce points. We are competing well and we are excited to learn and build on this weekend going forward."
Â
Charlie Broom and
David Horneffer, who are currently ranked 28th in the country, had a 6-4 win at the No. 1 doubles spot, while the Tigers were victorious on court two. The first point went to Dartmouth (3-0) when
Dan Martin and
Pierce Widdecombe won their match by a score of 6-4 at the No. 3 position.
Â
LSU (5-1) tied things up with a win at the No. 6 singles position until a 6-3, 6-3 win by
Alejandro Quiles on court five and a 6-2, 7-5 win by
Peter Conklin at the No. 4 position put the Green ahead. That lead did not last, however, as Tiger victories at the No. 1 and 3 spots made it a 3-3 match.
Â
On court two, Martin dropped his first set to Ronald Hohmann, 7-5. The Big Green junior came back to win the remaining two, 6-1, 6-3, to clinch the match.
Â
Next weekend, Dartmouth will be home again against Rice, Boston University and Bryant.
