1/27/2020 3:48:00 PM | Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Squash, Athletics
The Big Green swim and squash teams competed in Hanover this weekend with the impressive results in both sports. Junior Connor LaMastra set Karl Michael pool records in the 200 IM, 200 free and the 1650 in a win over UMass. Freshman Jesse Brownell is on a three-game winning streak in her first season on the women's squash team. The Belmont, Massachusetts native swept her matches against Drexel and St. Lawrence. Â
Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Cape Air Athletes of the Week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Cape Air Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Connor LaMastra, Jr., Atlanta, Ga., Free/IM, Men's Swimming
Connor LaMastra had quite the weekend, breaking pool and meet records in the 200 IM, 200 free and 1650. The latter was the longest standing individual record left, one that had stood on the board since Dartmouth hosted the Ivy League Championship in 1981. The Big Green defeated UMass to win the Tate Ramsden Invitational, 187.5-142.5.
Jesse Brownell, Fr., Belmont, Mass., Women's Squash
Jesse Brownell was instrumental in Dartmouth's 2-0 weekend over No. 6 Drexel and St. Lawrence. Playing in the No. 3 position all weekend, Brownell first defeated Drexel's Hannah Blatt in five games (11-9, 8-11, 12-10, 3-11, 11-7). It was the only match of the day that went to five games and it was the key for the Big Green's 5-4 win on Friday.
The freshman then completed a sweep of her opponent from St. Lawrence on Sunday (11-2, 11-3, 11-1), matching all of her teammates, as Dartmouth rolled over the Saints, 9-0. Brownell is currently on a three-game individual winning streak with victories over George Washington, Drexel and St. Lawrence.Â
