ITHACA, N.Y. – No. 2 seed Dartmouth men's tennis suffered a 4-1 loss to third-seeded Cornell in the semifinal of the ECAC Indoor Championship on Saturday.
Â
"Credit to Cornell today," head coach
Xander Centenari said. "They played hard and brought great energy on their home courts. We've got to work on executing a little bit better from the start in doubles. We have been able to overcome some tough doubles points in the last two matches, but Cornell did not give up any ground in singles.
Â
"Our whole body of work has been phenomenal this year," Centenari continued. "We are prepared and ready to bounce back against Princeton tomorrow."
Â
Big Red wins at the No. 3 and 2 doubles positions gave the host a 1-0 advantage heading into singles. On court one,
Charlie Broom and
Pierce Widdecombe were up, 5-4, when their match went unfinished.
Â
Cornell (5-1) picked up a win at the No. 5 singles position before
Dan Martin defeated Alafia Ayeni, 6-1, 6-4, on court two. That proved to be the only point Dartmouth (9-1) would get, and victories on courts one and six gave the win to the home team.
Â
The Green will take on the Tigers at 12 p.m. on Sunday in the final match of the weekend.
