HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League announced its weekly award winners for men's basketball this afternoon, and Dartmouth forward
Chris Knight was chosen as the Player of the Week for his performance in the Big Green's weekend sweep of Columbia and Cornell.
The junior from Madison, Wisconsin, rarely missed a shot in the two games, shooting a combined 85.7 percent (18-of-21) from the floor while averaging 20.0 points and 6.0 rebounds. Against the Lions, Knight matched a season-high with 23 points — including the 1,000th of his career — on 10-of-11 shooting, plus blocked a pair of shots as Dartmouth squeaked out a 65-63 victory, ending a nine-game skid. The next night, the Big Green's leading scorer produced 17 points on 8-of-10 field goals along with 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season in a 75-53 romp over the Big Red, giving Dartmouth its first Ivy weekend sweep in five years.
Knight currently leads the Big Green in scoring (13.7 ppg), field goal percentage (.517), blocked shots (30) and steals (20). And with his 1,000th career point, he became the 30th Dartmouth player to achieve the milestone.
Knight is the first Big Green player to earn the Player of the Week honor since
Brendan Barry over a year ago on Dec. 17, 2018. This is also Knight's second time being honored with this award having first earned it the week prior to Barry.
Dartmouth (9-14, 2-6 Ivy) will finish a four-game homestand this weekend when it hosts Penn (13-8, 5-3 Ivy) and Princeton (11-10, 6-2 Ivy) on Friday and Saturday night, respectively. Both games will tip at 7 p.m. and be streamed live on ESPN+ with Bob Lipman and Dave Faucher calling the action. A free live audio streak will also be available featuring Brett Franklin on the call through the official website of Big Green athletics, DartmouthSports.com.
Notes: Knight is nearing another milestone, needing just six blocks to become the sixth player in program history with 100 swats to his credit … a win over Penn on Friday would give Dartmouth three consecutive Ivy League victories for the first time since the end of the 2014-15 regular season.
