FLO-RIDA
Dartmouth softball travels even further south to Florida to compete in The Spring Games this weekend in Longwood. The Big Green begin on Friday against Florida International and Albany. They then play two on Saturday against Western Michigan and Loyola Chicago and finish the trip Sunday morning against No. 12 Kentucky.
CHARLESTON CLASSIC IN REVIEW
- Dartmouth started the season with a 3-2 record in Charleston with wins over Charleston (2-0), Ohio (6-4) and North Carolina A&T (2-1 in 8 innings)
- In game one against No. 25 Virginia Tech, the Big Green took an early 2-0 lead on three consecutive walks after Micah Schroder singled and Schae Nelson doubled. The Hokies then scored 12 unanswered runs to win in five innings.
- Brooke Plonka then threw a complete-game shutout with 14 strikeouts in Dartmouth's 2-0 win over Ohio. Abby Shipley drove in both runs with a double in the third inning.
- The Big Green then suffered a 12-4 defeat in six innings to Army. Nelson homered in the third, while Schroder and Nelson went back-to-back in the sixth.
- Madie Augusto earned the win in a 6-4 defeat of against Ohio. Augusto allowed just one run in three innings of relief and struck out a batter. Nelson, Schroder and Billie McFadyen each had two hits.
- Finally, Plonka and Augusto combined for a no-hitter and Loghan Thomas walked it off in the eighth to give the Big Green a 2-1 win over North Carolina A&T.
WINNER-WINNER
- Plonka was tabbed the Ivy League Pitcher of the week for her stellar performance over the weekend. It was Plonka's first weekly award in her career.
- The sophomore appeared in four games and started three, posted a 1-0 record, 1.29 ERA and had 25 strikeouts in 16.1 innings.
- Plonka pitched the complete-game shutout with 14 K's against Charleston and was the starting pitcher in the no-hitter against N.C. A&T.
- She is already over her total strikeout total from last season (21).
- Senior Micah Schroder, junior Abby Shipley and sophomore Billie McFadyen were named to the honor roll.
SCOUTING FIU
- The Panthers will meet Dartmouth with a 2-6 record and have dropped five straight games.
- FIU began the season by hosting the Felsberg Invitational where they opened the season with a win over Cal (6-1) and beat former Dartmouth head coach Shannon Doepking and Syracuse (2-1).
- The Panthers then went to the USF tournament and went 0-5 against Tennessee and USF and UCF twice.
- Virginia Tech is batting .245 as a team and are heavy on singles with 45 of their 50 total hits being one-baggers.
- Alexis Johns leads the team with a .444 batting average and five stolen bases.
- Madison Mendez (.333), Kayla Whitehead (.318) and AnnMarie Cooker (.313) are all batting over .300.
- Jessica Rivera and Britanny Phillips have each hit a home run.
- The Panthers are 13-16 on stolen bases as a team.
- In the circle, FIU has a 3.34 team ERA and is holding opponents to a .282 batting average.
- Allison Muraskin has a 1.62 ERA and a 2-2 record with nine K's in 26.0 innings in five appearances and four starts.
SCOUTING ALBANY
- The Great Danes already played in The Spring Games last weekend where they went 3-2.
- Albany's wins came against Providence (5-2), Merrimack (6-1) and Manhattan (7-6).
- The two losses, coincidentally, were against Ivy League teams. Cornell beat them 12-5 and Columbia won 2-1. Dartmouth will look to avoid being the first Ivy team to fall to Albany.
- The Great Danes are hitting .305 as a team. Madison Patrella leads the team with a .571 batting average, two home runs, three doubles and nine RBIs.
- Alexis Phillips is batting .500 with two doubles and two RBIs.
- Morgan Petty (.471), Kelly Barkevich (.333), and Love Drumgole (.278) are having impressive starts as well.
- Albany has a 3.63 team ERA and opponents are hitting .293 against them.
- Wendi Hammond boasts a 1.24 ERA with six strikeouts in 11.1 innings and has a 1-1 record.
SCOUTING WESTERN MICHIGAN
- Western Michigan has played a tough schedule thus far and has a 2-7 record.
- The Broncos started in the Kajikawa Classic in Arizona and its one win of that tournament was over No. 22 Arizona State (9-7). The losses were to Portland State (13-2), Utah (12-2), No. 5 Arizona (12-0) and No. 12 Tennessee (13-6).
- They then went to Nashville and dropped four of five. The win was over Belmont (8-6).
- Western Michigan is led by Sydney Stefanick, who is hitting .429 with a home run, three doubles and four RBIs.
- Kaylen Glenfield is hitting .346 with two doubles and three RBIs.
- Western Michigan has a team ERA of 7.34 and teams are hitting .352 against them.
- Not only is Stefanick the best hitter on the team, but she leads the way with a 4.91 ERA and 24 K's in 35.2 innings in seven appearances and five starts.
SCOUTING LOYOLA CHICAGO
- The Ramblers have played well so far this season and enter The Spring Games with a 7-3 record.
- Jessica Shields leads Loyola Chicago with a .467 batting average with two foubles and an RBI.
- Allyson Ivey is hitting .400 and leads the team with one home run and 14 RBIs.
- Madison Ebeling (.385), Katie Polaski (.375) and Shannon McGee (.296) are threats at the plate.
- The Ramblers are hitting .298 as a team and have a 3.00 team ERA.
- Sydney Ruggles leads the way in the circle with a 1.89 ERA in four appearances and three starts. She has 13 K's in 19.0 innings.
SCOUTING NO. 12 KENTUCKY
- The Wildcats are the highlight of the weekend for the Big Green. They enter The Spring Games with a 12-3 record.
- Kentucky defeated No. 7 Minnesota (7-0) and fell twice to No. 23 Arizona State (3-2 & 7-5).
- Nationally, the Wildcats are tied for ninth in the country with a .352 team batting average, 25th with 18 home runs, 15th with 29 doubles. They are outscoring teams 112-to-54 and are 26-of-30 on stolen bases.
- Bailey Vick is fourth in the country with a .605 batting average, she has two doubles, one triple and five RBIs.
- Alex Martens is hitting .468 and had five home runs, seven doubles and 25 RBIs.
- Mallory Peyton leads the team with six dingers and adds three doubles and 15 RBIs.
- Meghan Schorman leads the team with a 0.92 ERA in six starts and 29.1 innings. She has 28 K's and has four appearances without giving up a run.
