HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League announced its postseason awards for men's basketball today with Dartmouth junior
Chris Knight earning a spot on the All-Ivy League Second Team for the second consecutive year.
A 6-7, 225-pound forward from Madison, Wis., Knight was eighth in the league in scoring (14.8 points per game) and seventh in rebounding (6.4) while recording six double-doubles. He played in all 29 games, starting 28 (all except on Senior Day) and shot a robust 55.4 percent from the floor, which ranks second in the Ivy League and in the top 50 nationally. Knight scored in double figures 25 times while producing at least 20 points on five occasions, matching a career-high with 27 against Princeton on Feb. 22, plus handed out 2.0 assists per game. Defensively, he was both a rim protector with 35 blocks (sixth in the league) and a ball hawk with a team-best 26 steals.
Against the Ivy League teams, he was even more impressive, averaging 16.1 points and 6.9 rebounds a night while shooting 61.0 percent from the floor and 71.4 percent at the foul line. He really turned it on over the last 10 games, hitting 70.7 percent of his field goals to post 18.5 points and 7.3 rebounds a game. Twice he was selected as the Ivy League Player of the Week in that span as well.
Penn forward A.J. Brodeur and Yale forward Paul Atkinson — the only two unanimous selections on the All-Ivy League First Team — shared the Player of the Year award, while Brown forward Jaylan Gainey and Yale guard Jalen Gabbidon shared the Defensive Player of the Year honor. Jordan Dingle of Penn was the Rookie of the Year, and
James Jones of Yale took home the Coach of the Year award.
Notes: Next year, Knight will have the opportunity to become the first player at Dartmouth to receive All-Ivy honors three times since Shaun Gee '00 made the first team twice and the second team once … Knight will enter his senior year 18th all-time at Dartmouth with 1,144 points … if he continues to score and rebound at the same rate as the last two seasons, he would finish his career in the top five in both categories.
