April 9, 2011: Dartmouth defeats Princeton at home for the first time in over a decade
The Dartmouth women's tennis team, 75th in the ITA rankings, knocked off defending Ivy League champion and 49th-ranked Princeton on this date in 2011, 4-3. This was the Big Green's first victory over the Tigers at home in almost exactly 14 years (April 18, 1997).
Princeton took the doubles point, but Dartmouth bounced back to win the first two singles matches to take the lead. This included a win by senior Molly Scott '11 — a four-year All-Ivy League selection — at the top spot over the 2010 Ivy League Player of the Year.
The Tigers reclaimed the lead following victories at the No. 5 and 2 positions to make it a 3-2 match before a three-set win for freshman Melissa Matsuoka '14 on court three tied things back up again. This left the match on the racket of senior Ryan Reichel '11, who was locked in a three-set battle at the No. 4 position. Reichel went on to win the third-set tiebreaker to clinch the match.
Dartmouth would go on to earn a share of the Ivy League title for the first time in program history with a 6-1 record, matching its best mark ever for the third time (1987-88 and 1991-92).
