MILFORD, Conn. — The Dartmouth women's golf team wrapped up the first round of the SHU Fall Classic on Sunday with a 30-over 318, tying with Albany for third place in the 11-team field. Sophomore
Katherine Sung led the Big Green over the first 18 holes with a 4-over 76, leaving her alone in fifth place on the leaderboard.
A windy day on the tight, 5,971-yard, par-72 course at Great River Golf Club made for a challenging day for the golfers. Boston University (307, +19) will enter the second and final round tomorrow with a three-stroke lead over host Sacred Heart and 11 ahead of Dartmouth and the Great Danes. Quinnipiac is right on the Big Green's heels in fifth at 31-over.
Junior
Samantha Yao and freshman
Claire Xu both concluded the day among the top 20 in the 69-player field, tying for 12th (79, +7) and 18th (80, +8), respectively. Rounding out the Dartmouth score was sophomore
Penelope Tir with an 11-over 83, tied for 33rd.
Sacred Heart's Kailee Welch was the lone golfer to crack par, carding a 1-under 71 to sit atop the leaderboard, while her teammate, Chantal El Chaib, is third at 2-over par. The two other players ahead of Sung are from Boston University, Flair Kuan and Christy Chen, at 1- and 3-over.
The final round will tee off tomorrow at 10 a.m.
