CANTON, N.Y. — The Dartmouth men's ice hockey team defeated St. Lawrence, 3-2, in ECAC Hockey action on Friday evening at Appleton Arena.
The Big Green improve to 2-3-0 overall with a 2-2 conference record.
Senior
Justin Ferguson had a great first period for the Big Green, coming up with 15 saves to keep the game scoreless. The Dartmouth penalty kill was strong yet again as they had two successful penalty kills while only allowing one shot.
Whatever was said in the locker room during the first intermission certainly did the trick as the Big Green came out and scored inside the first minute of the second period. Junior
Mark Gallant received a pass from freshman
Sean Chisholm and slotted it perfectly into the net for his third straight game with a goal.
Dartmouth added to their lead just six minutes after forcing a Saints turnover. Senior
Sam Hesler skated across the face of goal and freshman
Matt Hubbarde played a perfect pass for Hesler to smash it home for his first goal of the season.
The Saints came out in the third period and scored two goals over a 40 second span inside the first two minutes to tie the game at 2-2. Ashton Fry scored the first goal as Aleksi Peltonen chipped in with the assist. Just 40 seconds later, Luc Salem scored the tying goal, with Justin Paul and Chris Pappas picking up the assists.
Midway through the period, Chisholm had the puck behind the net and played it back to the blue line to senior
Harrison Markell. Markell played the puck across the ice to junior
Jack Cameron, Cameron had lots of space and took advantage before smashing it through the defense for the 3-2 lead and the first goal of his career.
The Big Green defense held on in the final minutes to take the victory. Ferguson finished with 30 saves and earned his first career win.
Dartmouth is back in action tomorrow evening as they head to Cheel Arena to square off with Clarkson. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
