THIS WEEK
Dartmouth women's basketball has a busy three-game week, starting with Drexel on Tuesday, which is the last of four straight road tilts.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green had a second-half comeback that fell short, being edged by Merrimack, 73-65, at Hammel Court on Saturday.
·
Katie Douglas led with 16 points, just shy of her career-best 20 from her freshman year. She went 5-for-7 (.714) in field goals, 4-for-6 (.667) in 3-pointers and a perfect 2-for-2 in free throws.
· Also ending with double-digit points were
Mekkena Boyd (14),
Victoria Page (11) and
Carrington Washburn (10), all of which were season-bests.
· After trailing by three heading to the second quarter, Dartmouth moved ahead, sporting a 36-33 lead at the end of the half and a 52-51 advantage going into the fourth.
· Having been down since the midway point of the third, the home team stole the lead at 5:45 of the final quarter, but the teams proceeded to jump back-and-forth until the final two minutes when the Warriors started to really pull ahead (67-63). Too many Green fouls paired with a good free throw percentage for Merrimack ended the game.
SCOUTING DREXEL
The Dragons are the first of the Big Green's opponents so far this season that have a winning record, entering Tuesday's matchup with a 4-2 mark. Drexel narrowly lost its first game of the year to Marist (52-50) but rebounded to win three straight against Saint Joseph's (63-55), La Salle (71-65) and Maryland Eastern-Shore (65-60).
A visit to the West Coast for the Dana on Mission Beach Holiday Tournament over Thanksgiving produced a 1-1 weekend, falling to Nebraska (65-53) before defeating Fresno State (63-46).
LAST TIME VS. THE DRAGONS
This is just the second time that Dartmouth and Drexel are meeting. On Nov. 13, 2015, in Philadelphia, the Dragons had a 69-53 win over the Big Green after a valiant effort from the visitors in the fourth quarter in the opening round of the preseason WNIT Tournament.
Dartmouth shot 33 percent from the field, as Lakin Roland led her team with 15 points, going 5-for-15 in field goals and sinking three out of four from the charity stripe. The home team outscored the Big Green for the majority of the game, except for in the fourth, when Dartmouth put up an impressive 22 points compared to Drexel's 14.
