Dartmouth (0-5) at Drexel (5-2)
Scoring was low in the early parts of the first quarter and a Drexel jumper in the first 45 seconds put the only two points on the board until the six-minute mark. The Dragons had an 8-0 run over the next 90 seconds, ended by a beautiful 3-pointer from Curtis at 4:21 (3-10). Another small rally put the home team up by 12 before a
Rosie Jennings jumper cut in. Drexel's shot from the charity stripe wrapped up the first (5-16).
Playing in front of a crowd from her hometown of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, Niekelski was a bright spot in the second quarter, scoring seven points from a pair of jumpers and a trey. Washburn also contributed a shot from the line and a free throw, but Drexel already had a sizeable lead at the end of the half (15-37).
The first five minutes of the third were even: the home team had a narrow 7-6 advantage, with Dartmouth's points coming from shots by Curtis and
Isabella DiGiovanni and two good foul shots by Niekelski (21-44). The Dragons had an 8-5 edge over the last five minutes to make it 52-26 heading to the final quarter.
Washburn's 3-pointer 12 seconds in opened scoring in the fourth, while good free throws from DiGiovanni and Curtis gave Dartmouth a boost with its 6-0 run in the first 120 seconds (32-52). Over the next four minutes, Drexel had an 8-6 lead, with Green points coming from
Emma Koch (2), Niekelski (2) and Curtis (2). Trailing, 62-38, three straight points from a trifecta by Washburn and a foul shot from Curtis got the Big Green to 42 with 1:51 to go. Washburn was back at 1:04, going 2-for-2 from the charity stripe before time ran out (44-67).
After getting back from Philly, the Big Green will have two days to get ready to host Loyola Chicago (Dec. 3) and Monmouth (Dec. 5). This will be Dartmouth's first time playing at Leede Arena in almost a full month.
