HANOVER, N.H. — Susan Dunklee, a member of the Dartmouth Class of 2008 and a three-time All-America cross country skier who helped the Big Green win the national title in 2007, became one of the first two U.S. athletes to qualify for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing last Friday.
Dunklee, the most successful United States female biathlete ever, has competed in the Winter Olympics twice previously with her best finish coming in 2014 at Sochi when she placed 11th. She is the lone U.S. female biathlete to win a medal at an individual world championship, taking silver in both 2017 and 2020. When Dunklee competes in Beijing next year, she will be vying to earn the first-ever U.S. medal in the biathlon — for either gender.
Joining Dunklee as an early Olympic qualifier is Clare Egan. Both earned their places on the team as the only U.S. female biathletes to earn multiple individual top-12 World Cup or world championships finishes this season.
The rest of the U.S. Olympic biathlon team, consisting of at least four athletes per gender, will be determined next season.
