CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Dartmouth women's rowing raced for the first time since November of 2019 on Saturday, taking part in the Charles River Basin Racing Series #9 on a windy Saturday in Boston. This was
Nancy LaRocque's first regatta with the Big Green after being named head coach almost a year ago.
The series – which started in March and will continue through next weekend – is hosted by Boston College and includes a number of different teams each time, this one featuring boats from Boston University and UMass racing alongside the Big Green and the Eagles.
"We are so proud of how all of our crews handled the incredibly challenging conditions in the basin, especially having such limited time on the water in April," LaRocque said. "If we can put out results like this with about three weeks of practice, imagine what we'll be able to accomplish with seven months of training together before our first race! We know we've got something special going on here and we look forward to having our entire team back together this fall."
Dartmouth's varsity eight started the morning off with a third-place finish (7:52.72), completing the course a split second behind UMass (7:52.31). BU won the event with a 7:42.28, while BC came in fourth place (7:59.29).
The Green's second varsity eight followed that up by placing second (8:00.83), finishing behind Boston University (7:52.54) and comfortably ahead of UMass (8:16.79). Boston College was a distant fourth (8:23.12).
In the final race of the day, Dartmouth's third varsity eight came out on top with a time of 8:22.84, leaving almost 12 full seconds between it and UMass in second (8:34.06). BC followed in third with a 9:10.34.
