JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Dartmouth senior
Tim Zepf put together the best race of his career Wednesday night at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Regional Meet to prolong his career.
Â
Zepf ran a personal best 1:48.39 to not only win his first-round heat of the 800m at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium, but also did so in the second-best time in program history.
Â
Overall, Zepf was third in a field of 48 competitors across six heats Wednesday in the Florida heat.
Â
In winning his section — the final heat of the event — Zepf earned an automatic berth into Friday night's quarterfinals, set to begin at 7:35 p.m. The top-three finishers from each heat, plus the next three-best times, will punch their tickets to the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Oregon, June 9-12.
Â
Zepf's 1:48.83 at IC4As two weeks ago that earned him a spot in Jacksonville was his previous best and No. 2 all-time mark in Dartmouth history. But that personal standard lasted just 12 days as the Londonderry, New Hampshire, native did everything in his power to continue his career in a Dartmouth uniform for at least a few more days.
