HANOVER, N.H. — First quarter goals from
Holley Cromwell and
Bronwyn Bird helped push the Dartmouth field hockey team past Central Michigan, 2-1, for the win in their home opener at Chase Field on Friday afternoon.
Â
The Big Green came out strong and looking to bounce back into winning form. Cromwell got things going when she fired in a shot past the Chippewas goalie for the 1-0 lead just under six minutes into the game, with Bird assisting on the goal.
Â
Shortly before the end of the first quarter, the Big Green had a penalty corner opportunity. Cromwell played the ball into the middle to
Cecelia Monnin, who perfectly setup Bird to launch it into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.
Â
Both teams kept each other in check, as there were only a handful of shots in the second and third quarters.
Â
The Chippewas got back into the game when Alice O'Hagan played the ball to Kate Biglin, and Biglin snuck it into the bottom corner to cut the deficit with just under 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
Â
In an attempt to tie the game with four minutes remaining, Central Michigan pulled their goalie to try and have the advantage. The Big Green defense kept their shape to hold on to win their home opener.
Â
Dartmouth returns to action on Sunday afternoon as they host Bryant at Chase Field for a 1:00 p.m. matchup. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will be provided. Links for those can be found
