HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth field hockey fell to twin-state rival Vermont, 2-1, in a close contest on Saturday at Chase Field.
Â
After a scoreless first period, it remained scoreless through the majority of the second quarter. With under three minutes until halftime, the Catamounts took advantage of a penalty corner opportunity. Kate Hall took the corner for Vermont and played the ball to the top of the arc to Puck Kwaspen. Kwaspen controlled the ball and fired it into the bottom right corner for the 1-0 lead.
Â
The score remained the same until early in the fourth quarter, when sophomore
Lila Browne tied up the game for the Big Green. Senior
Bee Hollyer collected the ball in midfield and played a through ball to split the Vermont defense to Browne on the run. Browne got control and rifled a shot to the bottom left corner for her first goal of the season.
Â
The Catamounts answered just two minutes later. A scramble in front of the Dartmouth goal led to Hall getting her stick on it first to tap it in the back of the net and take a 2-1 lead.
Â
After today's result, Dartmouth holds a 34-11-2 all-time series lead against Vermont.
Â
The Big Green look to bounce back as they take on Merrimack on Sunday afternoon at Chase Field.
