STORRS, CONN. — Dartmouth falls short against UConn, despite a strong second half surge on the road, Tuesday night. The score was 1-0 and for the third time this season the Big Green lost by only one goal.
The Big Green fell behind early, when a goal by the Huskies in the fifth minute put them at an early 1-0 disadvantage. Despite the early goal, Dartmouth (0-4) continued to fight. They allowed only one more shot on goal in the first 45 minutes and entered halftime down just one.
Dartmouth started the second half on the offensive. They controlled play early in the half and secured two free kicks on the UConn (4-2) side of the field in the first five minutes of play. The Big Green kept up the pressure as the half wore on. The team earned two corners in a span of five minutes midway through the second. Despite the consistent pressure, Dartmouth was unable to find the equalizer and after 90 minutes they still fell 1-0.
The Big Green's heightened urgency showed up in the box score in the second half. They outshot UConn, 5-3, and recorded two shots on goal. They also held the Huskies from recording a single shot on goal in the second half. Their pressure resulted in three corner kicks and one of their two shots on goal came from a menacing free kick that was crossed into the box in the 87th minute.
Dartmouth takes the field next against No. 1 Georgetown in Washington D.C., Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
