THIS WEEKEND
Dartmouth women's basketball will host Penn on Saturday at Leede Arena. Due to a rise in COVID-19 cases, games will be closed to the general public through January 18, 2022.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green were scheduled to play Yale and Brown on the road last weekend, but the games were postponed due to COVID-19 safety concerns. The contest against the Bulldogs has been rescheduled for Sunday, Jan. 23, while a date for the game versus the Bears has not yet been picked.
Most recently, Dartmouth opened conference play against Cornell, falling by a score of 45-36 on Jan. 2.
·
Emma Koch led the way with seven points after going 2-for-3 in 3-pointers and had a career-high seven rebounds.
·
Allie Harland had a pair of treys to end the game with six points.
· The Big Red jumped out to a good lead and soon had a 17-7 advantage after the first quarter.
· Although Cornell had control at the start of the second, the Big Green swooped in soon after and a 9-0 run thanks to a trey by Harland, a pair of field goals from
Doreen Ariik and one by
Jimena Abejon, and a
Victoria Page free throw made it a four-point game (21-17). Cornell battled back to make it 29-19 at the half.
· A Koch free throw, Harland's second trey of the game and Rosie Jenning's jumper got Dartmouth within five while halting the Big Red's momentum for half the quarter (33-28). Both teams had just two points in the final 3:26 (35-30).
· A 5-0 Big Red run over the first two minutes of the fourth put some distance between the teams, 40-31.
Mia Curtis and Koch added points before the game was done.
SCOUTING THE QUAKERS
Dartmouth and Penn are in the same boat and neither has played since Jan. 2. The Quakers had games against Cornell, Columbia and Temple postponed over the span of five days due to COVID.
Penn kicked off Ivy League play the day after New Year against Brown, defeating the Bears by a score of 66-37. With minimal games under anyone's belts right now, the Quakers are tied for second in the standings with Columbia with their 1-0 marks.
The team is first in defensive rebound percentage (.289) and blocked shots (64). Individually, Jordan Obi has been named Rookie of the Week twice and appears in the top-10 in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, blocked shots and defensive rebounds.
LAST TIME VERSUS PENN
The teams have faced each other 84 times dating back to 1979 and the Big Green hold a slight 43-41 record over the Quakers. Dartmouth commanded the series through the first 31 years with a 42-22 record, while Penn holds an 18-1 record since 2011. The last Green win in the series was in 2014.
Dartmouth fell to Penn twice throughout the 2019-20 season by very similar scores, 66-33 on Feb. 1 and 67-31 on Feb. 21.
