MONDAY MATCHUP
The Dartmouth women's basketball team will head out for its first Ivy League road game on Monday, taking on Harvard at 2 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green returned to action on Saturday after almost two weeks way, falling to Penn at Leede Arena, 55-31.
·
Rosie Jennings and
Carrington Washburn led the team with seven points apiece, while
Emma Koch collected a career-high 10 caroms.
· Dartmouth pulled ahead early and soon had a 7-2 lead, highlighted by a
Mekkena Boyd 3-pointer. The Quakers took control from there, going on an 18-2 run over the final 7:10 of the quarter, ended by a Koch buzzer-beater to make it a 20-9 game.
· The Green had a small run to start the second, but Penn responded with one of its own. Dartmouth again had the final word in the stanza as
Mia Curtis rattled in a trey with 50 seconds to go (28-16).
· The Quakers came out firing in the second half, but it was the Big Green that had a slight advantage over the final five minutes, holding the visitors to three points and maintaining their edge on the boards, pulling down 33 after three quarters.
· Penn had another run in the fourth and Jennings added a shot from the charity stripe before the game was done. Despite some shooting woes, the hosts put on a stellar defensive performance, holding the high-powered Penn offense to just 55 points.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
Harvard heads into Monday's game with an overall record of 7-9 and a 1-3 mark in conference action. The Crimson are on a two-game losing streak after falling to Yale (80-73) and Columbia (72-64).
They are looking pretty good in the Ivy League statistics: first in 3-point field goals made (150), assists (262) and offensive rebounds (229); second in 3-point field goal percentage (.336) and steals/game (9.8).
Harmoni Turner has been quite a force for Harvard during her first season in Cambridge, appearing in the top 10 in the league in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals, 3-point FG percentage and defensive rebounds.
RECORD VERSUS HARVARD
These teams have faced each other 86 times dating back to 1976 and Harvard holds a 50-36 edge over Dartmouth. Since 2000, the Big Green are 17-28 against the Crimson but have won just three of the last 10 meetings. The series was split in 2019-20, with both teams winning on their home courts. The last time Dartmouth won on the road was in January of 2016.
LEADING THE WAY
The underclassmen have been stepping up so far, as demonstrated by the fact that the top five scorers are all in their first seasons of competition. Curtis is leading with 97 points, followed by
Carrington Washburn (90), Boyd (81), Jennings (67) and
Grace Niekelski (61).
Doreen Ariik is the leading rebounder with 56.
Jennings has gone 29-for-62 (.468) in field goals to lead the way, while Boyd is 10-for-28 (.357) in treys. The sophomore transfer is also leading with 14 steals and 21 assists.
