HANOVER, N.H. – Despite good individual performances from
Rosie Jennings and
Mekkena Boyd, Dartmouth fell to Harvard 96-62 at Laviates Pavilion on Monday afternoon.
Jennings went 5-7 (.714) from the floor including a trey, and was perfect at the line, adding five rebounds and one assist for a career-high 13 points. Boyd chipped in 12 points and three assists.
Dartmouth (1-14, 0-3) at Harvard (8-9, 2-3)
The home team came out hot, holding a 15-2 lead after the first five minutes of the opening quarter. Dartmouth's defense picked up in the second five, allowing just six points while picking up six of its own, capped by
Carrington Washburn's layup and free throw. The Crimson responded with an 8-0 run to finish the quarter up 29-8.
The teams were evenly matched in the second and Dartmouth had an 11-9 advantage over the first six minutes, with five of those points coming from
Emma Koch (38-19). The Crimson got a little bit of a boost after that, but the Big Green were never kept off the board for long. The later parts of the quarter were highlighted by treys from Boyd and
Allie Harland to make it a 53-28 game at the half.
Jennings and
Mia Curtis hit 3-pointers during the third quarter when Dartmouth needed it most, but Harvard continued to pull away. Washburn had a pair of shots from the charity stripe and Koch added a layup before the end (72-43).
For the fourth quarter in a row, Jennings opened scoring for the Big Green, this time with a layup with 8:13 remaining.
Katie Douglas and Harland knocked down treys 90 seconds apart before Jennings hit a pair of foul shots around the halfway point of the quarter. Harvard ended the game with a slight 11-9 edge and Boyd's shot with 10 seconds to go wrapped things up (96-62). The Big Green finished the game shooting 36.7% from the floor, and won the battle of the boards, outrebounding Harvard by six and collecting a season-high 18 offensive boards.
Dartmouth will be home for a few days before heading out again, this time for Princeton and Yale on Saturday and Sunday.
