HANOVER, N.H. — At the end of last week, U.S. Ski & Snowboard revealed its nominations for the cross country and alpine team rosters for the Beijing Winter OIympics next month, and six skiers from Dartmouth — alumni and current students — are among the chosen athletes. Nominations are to be confirmed by the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee when it formally announces the U.S. Olympic Team later today.
Four of the six will compete in the alpine events, including a pair of first-time Olympians in A.J. Hurt '23 and Nina O'Brien '20. Tricia Mangan '19, a two-time first-team All-American for the Big Green in the giant slalom, is back for her second Olympics after competing in Pyeongchang in 2018, placing ninth in the alpine team event. Veteran Tommy Ford '12, returning from a serious injury a year ago, will compete in his third Olympics (2010, 2018) and is a nine-time national champion.
The Big Green will be represented on the cross country trails by two women — Julia Kern '19, another first-time Olympian and Rosie Brennan '11. Brennan was an eight-time All-American at Dartmouth and competed in the Pyeongchang Olympics as well, plus recently became the first U.S. skier to reach the podium in a World Cup distance race in 2021, placing third in the 10K in Lillehammer, Norway last month.
All told, eight athletes will represent Dartmouth in Beijing, with biathlete Susan Dunklee '08 having already qualified for Team USA, while Laura Stacey '16 will lace up her skates for Team Canada on the women's hockey team.
