HAMILTON, N.Y. — The Dartmouth men's hockey team fell to Colgate, 2-1, in overtime in ECAC Hockey action on Saturday evening at the Class of 1965 Arena.
Dartmouth goes to 3-13-3, 2-9-2 while Colgate improves 9-14-2, 4-7-2.
Tanner Palocsik scored the team's ninth power play goal of the season and the fourth in the last five games.
Goaltender
Justin Ferguson made 29 saves between the pipes for Dartmouth.
The Big Green went on the defensive early in the first period after a slashing major on
Brock Paul. The defense made several blocks while Ferguson had a handful of saves to successfully kill off the penalty. Ferguson ended the first period with 14 saves.
Dartmouth took the lead midway through the second period. Colgate's Colton Young was called for hooking with 10:22 remaining in the period. Less than 30 seconds later,
Braiden Dorfman played the puck to the middle to
Mark Gallant who chipped the puck to his left to
Tanner Palocsik, who fired it home with the first-time shot to give the Big Green a 1-0 lead.
With one second remaining in the second period, Colgate was handed a major and game misconduct for kneeing after a video review from the officials, giving Dartmouth a five-minute power play and starting the first 4:59 of the third period with a 5v4 advantage.
The Raiders equalized late in the third period after going on a 4v3 advantage. Colgate won a faceoff in the Big Green defensive area and capitalized right away.
Neither team could find the winner in the final seven minutes, forcing a 3v3 sudden death overtime period, making it back-to-back nights Dartmouth went to overtime.
Elliott McDermott scored the winner for Colgate shortly into the extra period.
