HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's hockey team fell to RPI, 2-0, in ECAC Hockey action on Tuesday evening at Thompson Arena.
Dartmouth falls to 3-14-3, 2-10-2 while RPI improves to 12-15-3, 7-7-0.
Clay Stevenson finished the night with 33 saves.
Ian Pierce led with 6 shots for the Big Green. The RPI defense combined for 14 blocked shots.
The Engineers jumped out to a 1-0 lead just over five minutes into the first period. After a flurry of quick shots in front of goal, RPI thought they got the puck over the goal line but the initial call on the ice from the officials was no goal. After a challenge from the RPI coaches, the officials reviewed the play and declared it a goal, scored by Zach Dubinsky.
It was low shooting through the remainder of the opening period as the Engineers held an 8-4 shots on goal advantage.
Dartmouth went on to the penalty kill early in the second period after
Ryan Lovett was called for roughing. RPI found themselves with a great opportunity in front of goal, but a sprawling
Clay Stevenson made several saves to keep the puck out of the net.
The Big Green went on the power play early in the final period.
Nick Unruh had a good look from the left side, but it was saved by RPI goaltender Jack Watson.
The Engineers added another late in the third period off a power play, scored by TJ Walsh.
The Big Green piled on the pressure throughout the third period, having their best shooting period of the night, but was unable to cut into the deficit.
Dartmouth hits the road this weekend as they head to Harvard on Friday for ECAC Hockey and Ivy League matchup followed by the non-conference finale on Saturday at #14 UMass Lowell.
