LAKE PLACID N.Y. — Eli Kimche,
Mark Turner and
Aaron Zhang all shot even or below following the opening two rounds of the Columbia Autumn Invitational. The Big Green closed out the first day of the competition tied for fourth place in a field of nine teams at Lake Placid Golf Club.
Dartmouth ended the day tied with Cornell, as both programs shot an even 568. Sacred Heart enters the final round of competition at 20-under 568 and holds a five-stroke lead on host team, Columbia. St. Thomas Aquinas sits in third place with a two-stroke advantage on Dartmouth and Cornell.
Kimche led the Big Green in the opening round of the day, shooting 4-under 71, following a strong round that included an eagle and three birdies. Turner shot 2-under par, which included four birdies for the fifth-year captain, while and
Alex Gu closed out the first round at 1-over par.
Zhang shot 2-over par in the first round, while senior
Charles Petrie finished the first 18 with a score of 79 (+8). Freshman
Cameron Keith, who competed as an individual, shot even through the first round.
Dartmouth's second round was highlighted by a stellar performance from Zhang. After shooting 3-over par on the front nine, the freshman went 5-under par, which included four birdies and an eagle on the final nine holes of the day. He closed out the round 2-under 71 and heads into Sunday at 73-69-142 (E).
Kimche closed out the second round tied for fifth in a field of 59 athletes. The sophomore enters Sunday with scores of 67-71-138 (-4). Turner finished his day at 69-73-142 (E) after shooting 2-over par in the second round, and is tied for 12th in the field, alongside Zhang.
Gu shot 3-over par in the second round and heads into Sunday tied for 29th. Petrie improved upon his opening round score, and sits tied for 54th with scores of 79-76-155 (+13). Keith shot 3-over par in the second round and is tied for 23rd following Saturday's action at the Lake Placid Golf Club.
