HANOVER, N.H. — The Big Green sailing program had a successful weekend on the water, with strong finishes at a pair of regattas. Dartmouth took first place in the opening round of the Open Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championships and sixth in a field of 16 at the Esther Open.
At the Open Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championships,
Boyd Bragg and
Yumi Yoshiyasu took first place in the "A" division.
Maddie Hawkins and
Aisling Sullivan finished second in a field of 18 teams. The Big Green's first place finish qualifies the team to advance to the championship round.
The Big Green's win at the Atlantic Coast Championships marked the first time the program finished atop the field at a regatta. Dartmouth improved on its finish at the event last year, as the Big Green placed sixth at the opening round of the event last season.
The Sister Esther Open, which was hosted by Salve Regina, saw
Bella Casaretto and
Phoebe Lee take third place in "A" division competition.
Madeline Koelbel and
Eliza Crocker gained valuable experience in the "B" division, as the Big Green ended the weekend as the No. 6 team in the regatta.
The Big Green are set to host the 31
st Captain Hurst Bowl regatta at Mascoma Lake from Oct. 15-16. Dartmouth also sets sail at the final round of the Women's Atlantic Coast Championships, hosted by Kings Point this weekend.
