CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Dartmouth women's rowing team opened its season on Saturday at the 57th Head of the Charles Regatta. The Big Green had entries in the Club Fours and Club Eights, finishing 12th out of 49 crews and 11th out of 40 crews, respectively.
"Overall, we are happy with the results from today and have lots of great things to build on," said head coach
Nancy LaRocque.
The Club Four, which was Dartmouth's Second Varsity Four, began the day by posting a time of 19:02.114. The crew finished ahead of Ivy League foe Penn and only 0.02 seconds behind Columbia.
"Our coxswain unfortunately did not have an operational microphone during the race, which would have improved our time a good bit," said LaRocque.
Dartmouth's Second Varsity Eight rowed in the Club Eights and finished with a time of 17:06.475, ahead of Columbia. A tight race saw the Big Green, who placed 11th, finish 36 seconds behind second-place Radcliffe and 34 seconds behind third-place Yale.
"Over 5,000 meters, that's a good spot to be this time of year compared to last year," said LaRocque. "Last year at this time, we were a minute behind Yale."
The Big Green return to the water on Sunday, with entries in the Championship Fours and Championship Eights.
