CANTON, N.Y. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team fell in ECAC Hockey competition to St. Lawrence on Friday night. The Big Green found the back of the net twice, but could not overcome the Saints, falling by a score of 4-2 on the road at Appleton Arena.
Junior
Jenna Donohue and senior
Celine Pietraszek each found the back of the net for the Big Green, while
Carlie Primomo,
Georgia Kraus and
Caroline Appleyard tallied assists. Sophomore goaltender
Maggie Emerson stopped 29 of 33 shots she faced throughout the contest.
Sydney Herrington was stellar in the faceoff circle, winning nine of 12 draws against SLU, while
Lauren Messier went 3-0 at the dot. The Saints won 55.9 percent of faceoffs and outshot the Big Green 33-22 over the course of the evening.
St. Lawrence struck first just 1:09 into the opening frame, as Shailynn Snow found the back of the net following a cross-ice pass from Julia Gosling. While Dartmouth tested St. Lawrence goalie Lucy Morgan with eight shots, the Big Green were unable to find the back of the net in the first.
The Saints extended their lead to two in the 12th minute, as Kiley Mastel corralled a pass from Gosling and fired a puck past Emerson. Mastel's sixth of the season gave SLU a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
While the Big Green only managed five shots in the second, compared to St. Lawrence's 12, Dartmouth created chances to trim the lead. This tenacity paid dividends at 10:01 of the period, as a a pass from Primomo set Donohue up for an open shot against Morgan.
Donohue buried the shot over Morgan's glove to cut into the Saints' lead. Her fourth of the season leads Dartmouth though 12 games as the Big Green went into the third down by one goal. Emerson stopped all 12 shots she faced in the second frame.
St. Lawrence extended its lead to 3-1 in the early stages of the third, as Anna Segedi found a loose rebound in front to cash in her eighth of the year. Gosling registered her third assist of the night on Segedi's tally.
Laura Fuoco seemed to trim SLU's lead to one with 13 minutes remaining the third, but the goal was waived off due to incidental contact with the goaltender. St. Lawrence added a fourth goal, as Gosling found the back of the net a few minutes later to increase its lead to 4-1.
Pietraszek made the most of a 2-on-1 opportunity in the 16th minute of the final frame. The Colorado Springs, Colorado native looked
Georgia Kraus' way on the odd-player rush but elected to rifle a shot past Morgan to score her third of the year.
