CONWAY, S.C. — Dartmouth (1-1) split with North Carolina A&T (7-5) and Monmouth (1-7) on the first day of the Chanticleer Showdown hosted by Coastal Carolina. The Big Green fell to the Aggies in extra innings by a score of 5-4 in their first game of the day and the defeated the Hawks by a score of 6-3 to earn their first win of the season.

Leila Hennessy each went 2-for-4 at the plate and sophomore
Kelly Beaupre led the team with two RBI. Senior
Brooke Plonka pitched a complete game from the circle and struck out six batters in the loss.

Dartmouth scored two runs in the top of the second to take the early lead. Beaupre singled to center field and then Panu scored on the throw and junior
Kate Farren scored as well. The Aggies then cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning.

A&T added another run in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 2-2. The Big Green regained the lead in the top of the sixth when junior
Maddie Katona was able to reach home after a passed ball. The Aggies responded with a home run to tie the game at 3-3 through six.

The score was still tied after seven innings and the game went to extras. Senior
Billie McFadyen scored on a sac fly from Farren to take a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the eighth. A&T responded by adding two runs and earning the 5-4 victory.

Monmouth
Â
McFadyen and Beaupre led the offense in the second game of the day. McFadyen went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Beaupre went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Senior
Madie Augusto pitched a complete game and earned the win.

Dartmouth took an early lead in the bottom of the second when junior
Maria Angelino stole home. The Hawks responded with a run in the third to tie the game and then Monmouth homered in the top of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead.

The Big Green offense erupted in the fifth and the team scored five runs to take a 5-2 lead. Beaupre kicked off the inning with an RBI double and the team added three more after that. Dartmouth added one more run in the sixth and the Hawks picked up a run in the seventh to end the game at 6-3.

Dartmouth returns to action with two more games tomorrow. They take on Monmouth again at 4:30 p.m. and the faceoff against Central Michigan at 7 p.m.
