THIS WEEKEND
Dartmouth women's basketball will end its three-game home stretch this weekend when it hosts Yale and Brown. The Big Green and the Bulldogs will be meeting for the second time in 10 days, while the Bears are the last of the Ivy League opponents Dartmouth has yet to meet this season.
LAST TIME OUT
On Saturday, the Green fell to Columbia at Leede Arena, 65-46.
·
Mekkena Boyd and
Carrington Washburn both ended the game with eight points, while
Doreen Ariik collected eight rebounds and two blocks.
· Trailing by 10 after the first quarter, Dartmouth came out fighting in the second, going on a 10-2 run in the first three minutes and ending the half down by just six (32-26).
· Coming back from the break, the Lions ran away with the game, scoring nine points while allowing just two from the Big Green over the first two minutes.
· Dartmouth started the fourth with a 5-0 boost thanks to a jumper by
Jimena Abejon and
Emma Koch's second trey of the afternoon. The Big Green found some momentum, outscoring the visitors in the final 10 minutes, 10-6.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Since last meeting in New Haven, Yale played just one game against Princeton, losing by a score of 61-49 and snapping its five-game winning streak that went back to Jan. 8. The Bulldogs and the Tigers kept it really close though and were knotted at 36 heading to the final quarter. That was where Princeton turned it on though, outscoring Yale 25-9 in the final seven minutes to pull out the win.
Even with the loss, the Bulldogs are still looking good in the Ivy League standings as they sit in third place.
ALL-TIME VERSUS YALE
In a series that goes back to 1974, it is the Green that leads with a 54-34 record. The Bulldogs hold a slight 23-21 record since 2000, and a bigger 20-4 mark since 2010.
The game between these two teams at the end of January was pretty close and one of Dartmouth's most competitive of the conference season, considering the Bulldogs had beat the Quakers the day before.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Brown has struggled during conference play and enters the weekend with an 0-6 record, much like Dartmouth. The Bears were on a two-game winning streak back in December, but once Ivy action began, it has been L's ever since. There have been some close games, though. On Jan. 17, Brown fell by just two points to Yale (L, 69-67). The Bears lost to Columbia by eight on Jan. 22 (L, 60-52) and, a week later, dropped their game to Cornell by six (61-55).
ALL-TIME VERSUS BROWN
In 89 games dating back to 1978, Dartmouth leads the all-time series, 60-29. Since 2000, the Big Green have held a 29-14 advantage.
LEADING THE WAY
The underclassmen continue to shine, as demonstrated by the fact that the top five scorers are all in their first seasons of competition.
Mia Curtis remains ahead of the pack with 136 points. The sophomore has seen the most playing time with 438 minutes and has started all but two of the 18 games the team has played. Boyd and Washburn remain tied with 107 points.
Ariik leads with 86 rebounds, while Washburn isn't far behind with 76. Boyd has a team-leading 31 assists and 21 steals.
