HANOVER, N.H. – Leading through most of the first quarter and tied at the half, Dartmouth women's basketball couldn't hold on in the second half, falling to Yale by a score of 48-33 at Leede Arena Friday night.
Katie Douglas led the way for the Big Green with eight points, going 4-8 from the field.
Doreen Ariik led with seven rebounds, while
Victoria Page added four assists and
Mekkena Boyd had three steals.
Dartmouth (1-18, 0-7) vs. Yale (13-7, 6-2)
Two points on either side of the court in the first minute appeared to set a fast pace of the first quarter, but after a trey from Page at the 7:33 mark made it 5-2 in Dartmouth's favor both teams locked in defensively and the score stayed that way for three more minutes. The Bulldogs took a one-point lead for 17 seconds before five points from Douglas gave the lead back to the Big Green (11-9).
Having been kept scoreless for three and a half minutes and down by two, the Bulldogs had five straight points to open the second period. Page's second three ball with 1:57 to go tied the game and good defense on both sides kept it there to end the half (16-16).
Yale started the second half on a 5-0 run, ended by a
Jimena Abejon jumper nearing the midway point of the quarter. Douglas had another three points and
Emma Koch hit a shot from the charity stripe, but the defensive battle continued, as it was the Bulldogs that had the advantage after the third (29-22).
Ariik added a jumper to open scoring for Dartmouth in the fourth before eight straight points gave Yale a 15-point advantage, its biggest lead of the night. A Koch 3-pointer and a Boyd shot from the line gave Dartmouth a boost late in the quarter, but a 9-4 Bulldog run ended the game (48-33).
Brown will come to Leede Arena for a 4 o'clock game on Saturday. The Bears are the last of the Ivy League opponents that Dartmouth has yet to meet since 2020.
