HANOVER, N.H. — With excellent performances in both the slalom and giant slalom at the New Hampshire Carnival this past weekend, Dartmouth fifth-year senior
Hannah Utter and freshman
Oliver Morgan were named the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) Women's and Men's Alpine Skiers of the Week, respectively.
Utter, who hails from Waitsfield, Vermont, just 80 minutes up I-89 from Dartmouth, carved up Cannon Mountain on Friday to claim fourth in the slalom before winning the giant slalom the next day by a quarter of a second. It was her second win of the carnival season and first in the GS, and that performance helped boost her to fifth in the women's alpine rankings in the East going into the NCAA Championship next week.
Morgan is even more of a local product, growing up in Hanover, and grabbed a podium spot in both races, the first two of his career. First, he shredded the slalom course to finish third, and the following day he improved to second in the GS in a treacherous race that saw more skiers unable to finish two runs than those that completed both. Those two podiums were the deciding factors in his qualifying for the NCAA Championship.
Dartmouth heads to Utah for the NCAA Championship that begins on March 9 with the giant slalom at the Park City Mountain Resort. The cross country races will take place at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center on March 10 and 12 with the slalom set in between those two back at Park City on March 11.
