ATHENS, Ga. – Dartmouth softball split on the second day of the UGA Classic, falling to Illinois, 9-1 in five innings, before defeating Mercer by a score of 5-0.

Izzy Kam led the day with a run in both games. Four other players had one in the second contest of the day.

Game One: Dartmouth (2-13) vs. Illinois (13-11)
Kam had two hits and the team's lone run, while
Maddie Katona had a hit of her own. The Fighting Illini had seven players with one run, being led by Delaney Rummell with two.

The Big Green got scoring started right out of the gate. Kam led off with a single and advanced to third on a throwing error by the pitcher. With two outs,
Kate Farren reached on a fielding error, advancing Katona to third and sending Kam home for the first run of the day.

Dartmouth held on to that lead until Illinois tied things up in the second inning, adding two runs in the third to make it a 3-1 game. The Illini ran away with it in the fifth inning, scoring six runs to end the game (9-1).

Game Two: Dartmouth (3-13) vs. Mercer (7-20)
The Big Green bounced back later in the day against the Bears. Dartmouth had five runs, five hits and five RBIs.
Brooke Plonka twirled a four-hit shutout, winning her second game of the season and striking out 13 while walking three.

With two outs already on the board in the bottom of the first inning,
Alaana Panu reached first on an error and advanced to second when
Billie McFadyen walked. A single by Farren allowed Panu to score the first run.

All was quiet for the next four innings until Dartmouth scored four runs in the fifth.
Emily Lipsett pinch hit, singling and advancing to second when
Jenna Brown walked. After
Kira La Scola was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Kam stroked a two-run double. Two outs later,
Billie McFadyen tripled to plate the final two runs.
Plonka made sure the Big Green lead held, allowing just one base runner in each of the sixth and seventh innings to close out her third career shutout.

Tomorrow, Dartmouth will face Jacksonville State in Jacksonville, Alabama, before heading to Atlanta for two against Georgia Tech on Tuesday.
