IRVINE, Calif. – Dartmouth men's tennis dropped a close match to UC Irvine, 4-3, at the Anteater Tennis Stadium on Monday. The Big Green dipped to 7-4 while the Anteaters improved to 9-4.
Â
"Good fight today from our guys,"
Xander Centenari '13, the John Kenfield and
Chuck Kinyon Head Coach of Men's Tennis, said after the match. "I'm proud of the team effort. These outdoor matches are great experience for us. We are being forced to dig a bit deeper, to hit an extra few balls in the rally and adapt to playing outdoors. We've got a lot of great opportunities ahead of us this week and will learn from this one and build on it for the week."
Â
UCI started the match off with a win at No. 3 doubles, which was followed by a 6-2 victory by
Alex Knox-Jones and
Pierce Widdecombe at the No. 2 position.
Anders Gibbons and
Dominik Pauli gave the first point to Dartmouth with their 6-3 win at the top spot.
Â
Anteater victories at the No. 5, 6 and 1 positions suddenly gave the home team a 3-1 advantage but wins by Knox-Jones at the No. 4 position and Pauli on court three tied things at three apiece. Play at the No. 2 position was close, but the three-setter went to UCI to hand it the win.
Â
Dartmouth will face UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday.
