HANOVER, N.H. – The Big Green women's soccer team wrapped up the 2021-22 year with a banquet held at the Hanover Inn on Sunday. The team gathered to commemorate a successful first year back after a COVID-19 hiatus and to hand out team awards.
The Larry Garrity Award, established in 1995 in honor of a faithful Dartmouth fan, is presented to the most outstanding first-year player, as selected by her teammates. Freshman
Hannah Curtin (Winchester, Massachusetts) earned the award this season after starting all 15 games for the Green and White, scoring six goals and adding four assists to rank second on the team with 16 points.
Fifth-year senior
Erin Kawakami (Palos Verdes Estates, California) was named the recipient of the Wally Bell Award. This award is given in memory of one of the team's most faithful fans, the father of Gretchen Bell '01, who will always be remembered by the program for his caring, generosity, kindness and support. The award is presented to the player, who in the opinion of her teammates upholds DWS values of trustworthiness, accountability and inclusion, as selected by her teammates. Kawakami played in 14 games for Dartmouth this past fall, scoring two goals and assisting two others.
The recipient of the Keith Kurowski Award was
Maddie Mills (Milton, Massachusetts), who started 14 of the 15 games she played in while producing a goal and three assists. This award was established in memory of a true soccer fan and presented to a player whose teammates felt displayed Kurowski's same courage and enthusiasm despite great adversity and upholds the Dartmouth women's soccer (DWS) values of resilience, hard work and development.
A senior from Vienna, Virginia, Tracy Mills earned the Lucinda Fernald cup. This award was established in 1984 in honor of the first captain of the women's varsity soccer team by a gift from the Edward Tuck '50 family. It is presented to the player who best displays dedication to the Dartmouth women's soccer program and displays the DWS values of cohesion, appreciation and humility, as selected by the coaching staff and teammates. Mills started every game last fall, scoring a game-winning goal against George Mason and assisting a goal in the season opener against Holy Cross.
Rounding out the awards was
Allie Winstanley (Concord, Massachusetts) who earned the Player of the Year for the Big Green. This honor is presented to the player, who in the opinion of both her teammates and the coaches, was the most valuable on the field and upholds the DWS stated values of competitiveness, ingenuity and excellence, as selected by her teammates. Winstanley started all 15 games, leading the team with seven goals to go along with six assists. This was one of many accolades for Winstanley this year as she was named NEWISA First Team All-Region, Second Team United Soccer Coaches All-Region, First Team All-Ivy and CoSIDA Academic All-District I as well.
