NEW HAVEN, CONN. – With just two minutes left on the game clock, the Dartmouth women's soccer team made history with a 1-0 shutout against Yale on Saturday at Reese Stadium.
In the 88th minute of the game, Frankie Valverde was fouled by Yale's Belle Golden in the Bulldogs' defensive zone. This allowed the Big Green to have a final chance at putting themselves on top after nearly 90 minutes of neck-and-neck play between the Ivy League Rivals.
Hailey Rorick stepped up to the penalty spot and launched the ball into the bottom left pocket of the net for the game-deciding goal. Rorick's goal, the first of her senior season, secured Dartmouth's first appearance in the Ivy League Women's Soccer Tournament since its inception in 2023.
Rorick, a senior captain, said she and her two captains gave the team a phrase to remember for this game. She explained that this phrase was the team's mindset for the full 90 minutes of play.
"Our team, our game, our time to make history," Rorick said. "We were able to create some valuable chances, and as time ticked down, we knew we would get one more chance. I was so happy I was able to help lead this team to victory with the penalty kick, but couldn't have done it without all the hard work from the team!"
Dartmouth women's soccer is no stranger to postseason play, having previously competed in four Ivy League Championships from 1978 to 1981, before the conference adopted round-robin play in 1982. With the win, Dartmouth was the second team to clinch a spot in the tournament behind the reigning Ivy League Champions, Princeton.
"I'm so proud of our team's fight and composure for the full 90 minutes. Clinching a spot in the Ivy League postseason for the first time is a tremendous accomplishment and a testament to this group's belief, resilience, and commitment to one another. It's a special moment for our program, and we're excited to keep making history." Taylor Schram, the Stacy Branca '94 Family Head Coach of Women's Soccer, said.
The Big Green will close out the regular season next Saturday at 5 p.m. when hosting Cornell for Senior Day. You can purchase tickets

"The team played with so much heart today, and we are so ready to play for more in the tournament." Rorick said.
