PRINCETON, N.J. – The Dartmouth women's soccer team defeated Columbia in a 1-0 fashion on Thursday evening, advancing to the Ivy League Tournament final.
This marks the first time in program history that Dartmouth has beaten Columbia twice in the same season, as well as the first consecutive wins against the Lions since the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
The first half was neck and neck, with both teams fighting for steady possession of the ball. Dartmouth had three shots, while Columbia followed closely behind with two.
In the 25th minute, Lourdes Lauterborn (Phoenix, Ari./Xavier College Preparatory) began putting pressure on Columbia's defensive zone as she charged towards the net and cut across to connect with Stephanie Lathrop (Dayton, Md./Glenelg High School) for the game-deciding goal.
Lauterborn said the team knew it was going to be a high-pressure game, but the last time they played Columbia, they had a lot of success. She said that in the moment, she saw the ball getting switched across the field and decided to just take a chance.STEPHANIE LATHROP PUT US ON THE BOARD WITH HER TEAM HIGH EIGHTH GOAL OF THE SEASON!
