PRINCETON, N.J. – The Dartmouth women's soccer team defeated Columbia in a 1-0 fashion on Thursday evening, advancing to the Ivy League Tournament final.

This marks the first time in program history that Dartmouth has beaten Columbia twice in the same season, as well as the first consecutive wins against the Lions since the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

The first half was neck and neck, with both teams fighting for steady possession of the ball. Dartmouth had three shots, while Columbia followed closely behind with two.

In the 25th minute, Lourdes Lauterborn (Phoenix, Ari./Xavier College Preparatory) began putting pressure on Columbia's defensive zone as she charged towards the net and cut across to connect with Stephanie Lathrop (Dayton, Md./Glenelg High School) for the game-deciding goal.

Lauterborn said the team knew it was going to be a high-pressure game, but the last time they played Columbia, they had a lot of success. She said that in the moment, she saw the ball getting switched across the field and decided to just take a chance.

My touch got away from me, and then I got stuck, but it went right to Steph, and she finished it off… Lauterborn said. Steph and I have a good connection on and off the field, so I'm really happy we could connect for that one.

As the ball found the back of the net, Big Green fans and players filled Myslik Field with cheers. The Big Green bench began spilling onto the field, meeting Lathrop and Lauterborn halfway for a celebration.

In the second half, the Lions attempted to even the score by outshooting the Big Green 8-4, but were unable to secure a point.

The energy on the field, bench and bleachers quickly intensified as the final seconds of the game ran down. After the clock ran up, the Dartmouth bench once again flooded the field, running towards Ola Goebel in the net. History had been made; the Big Green secured a spot in the Ivy League Tournament final.

When asked about the overall team energy, Taylor Schram, the Stacy Branca '94 Head Coach of Women's Soccer, described it as simply fun. She said she never wants it to end, that she wants the season to go on forever because she loves this team.

I love watching them love each other in the game, off the field, Schram said. Everything that we do is so much fun and it shows. You can see the way that they celebrate one another and lift each other up in the big moments, in the hard moments, and I really think that's been the key ingredient to our success this year.

Dartmouth will continue its postseason run on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. when facing the No. 1 seed, Princeton, at Myslik Field for a chance at the Ivy League Tournament title.
