PRINCETON, N.J. – As the final seconds of Sunday's game ran down, Dartmouth's bench began pouring onto the field, meeting in midfield for a celebratory dog pile. In that moment, the women's soccer team made history by clinching its first Ivy League Tournament Championship title.
With the 1-0 win over Princeton, Dartmouth earned an automatic bid to the NCAA D1 Women's Soccer Tournament. This marks the Big Green's first appearance on collegiate soccer's biggest stage since 2005.
The Big Green made history in more ways than one, also beating the Tigers on the road for the first time since 2006. Additionally, this marks Dartmouth's first victory over Princeton since 2013.
Taylor Schram, the Stacy Branca '94 Head Coach of Women's Soccer, said postgame that it felt surreal. She expressed how proud she is of her team and how deserving they are of this accomplishment.
"They do it for each other, they do it for the Dartmouth women's soccer legacy," Schram said. "This program has such a rich history, and I'm so glad that the 2025 team can contribute to it in a big way."
The Ivy League rivals were keeping up with each other throughout the first half, with each only having two shots, and Ola Goebel making a save. Entering the second half, the momentum began to shift in Dartmouth's favor
In the 63rd minute, history repeated itself as Stephanie Lathrop secured the game-deciding goal in back-to-back tournament matches. The sophomore forward fired off a penalty kick, finding the back right pocket of the net and triggering cheers from the Dartmouth bench and crowd.
Lathrop said her goal in Sunday's game, as well as the game decider against Columbia, are a testament to the team and how hard they have worked.
"The first goal in the first game it was Lulu [Lourdes Lauterborn], who did a great drive, and I was just in the right place at the right time," Lathrop said. "The goal today again, teamwork right there. Hailey [Rorick] got the foul. I've been praying about that goal, and I knew it was going to go in."
With her performance throughout the tournament, Lathrop was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. When asked about what kind of player Lathrop has been this season, Schram said she's been a superstar on and off the field.
"It's not easy to transfer in and immerse yourself in a new culture, and she made it look easy," Schram said. "She's such a big presence on our team, such a big personality, and her teammates love her, she loves them, she's selfless."
Among those highlighted for their performances in the tournament were Goebel, Anna Leschly, and Lourdes Lauterborn. The three players were named to the Ivy League's All-Tournament team following the completion of the game.
