HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth softball team defeated Columbia, 9-1 in six innings, in Ivy League action on Sunday afternoon at Dartmouth Softball Park to win the three-game series over the Lions.

The Big Green improve to 14-21, 8-4 while Columbia falls to 12-23, 8-10.

Kate Farren,
Alaana Panu, and
Maria Angelino all had two hits for Dartmouth while Panu also had two runs and two RBI.
Brooke Plonka was commanding on the mound as she retired 14 of the first 15 batters of the game, including 10 straight, with the help of some great defensive plays from the Big Green infield.

Jaden Hill and Cami Neal each recorded a hit for the Lions. Kaia McCaul struck out two batters.

After
Brooke Plonka and Jordan Hill both retired the side to start the game, Dartmouth jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. A double from
Kate Farren sent
Leila Hennessy to third. On the next at-bat,
Alaana Panu hit a double down the third-base line that sent Farren and Hennessy across the plate. Later in the inning, Panu scored on a fielding error from Cami Neal.

The Big Green added two more in the third.
Maddie Katona led off the inning with a single back to the pitcher and advancing to second on a throwing error.
Billie McFadyen stepped up and hit a single to short, but a throwing error caused from a rundown allowed Katona and McFadyen to both score on the play.

Dartmouth found themselves in quite the jam to start off the sixth inning. Columbia loaded the bases with a single, a walk, and a batter hit by a pitch with no outs. The Lions scored on the ensuing at-bat on a fielding error from the Big Green before Plonka retired the next three batters to only allow the one run in the inning.

The Big Green ended the game with four more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Maria Angelino hit an RBI single to put Dartmouth up 6-1. In the next at-bat,
Emily Lipsett reached on a fielder's choice that sent
Jenna Brown home for the seventh run of the game. After McFadyen walked to load the bases,
Mary Beth Cahalan launched one out to left field that made its way to the ground. Taking advantage of the mishap by the left fielder, Lipsett and Angelino both scored on the play to end the game.

Dartmouth has a quick turnaround as they head to Philadelphia for a three-game series on Tuesday and Wednesday. The games will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
