HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth softball swept Hartford in a home doubleheader on Wednesday, winning 2-1 in the first game and 7-2 in the second.

Game 1: Dartmouth 2, Hartford 1
Brooke Plonka pitched a complete game, allowing one run on seven hits while striking out five.

The Big Green opened scoring in the bottom of the first when
Emily Lipsett led off with a single to the shortstop, advancing on a sacrifice. When
Billie McFadyen singled up the middle and advanced to second on the throw, Lipsett scored for the first run of the day.

The Hawks evened things up in the next inning when their second batter homered to right field. The score remained tied until the fourth, when
Mary Beth Cahalan walked and made it to third when
Leila Hennessy singled and advanced on the throw. A fielding error allowed
Kate Farren to reach, while Cahalan was sent home to make it a 2-1 game. Hartford had just two more hits before the game was done.

Game 2: Dartmouth 7, Hartford 2
Madie Augusto picked up her second win of the season, pitching four innings and allowing seven hits and zero runs.
Megan Hagge earned her first save, hurling three innings while allowing two unearned runs.

Much like the first game, Lipsett scored the first run in the bottom of the first inning, walking and making her way to second on another sacrifice. McFadyen singled and a Cahalan double to right center sent Lipsett home.

In the bottom of the second,
Jenna Brown reached on a fielding error and scored on
Maria Angelino's double to left center, giving the Big Green a 2-0 advantage. Hartford stranded four on base in the next two innings with nothing going.

In the bottom of the fourth, Farren doubled and scored when
Alaana Panu homered to left center.
Maddie Katona's triple to right field allowed Lipsett to score her third run of the day, while Katona added one of her own when McFadyen doubled to right center, making it a 6-0 game. Farren added one final run for Dartmouth in the bottom of the fifth. After being held scoreless the entire game, the Hawks went on to score two unearned runs in the top of the seventh, but it was a little late to make a difference.

This Saturday and Sunday, Dartmouth will host three games against Brown.
