HANOVER, N.H. —
John Dwyer, the Anny Jenny Head Coach of Women's Alpine Skiing, has been appointed to serve on the NCAA Men's and Women's Skiing Committee. Now in his eighth year with the Big Green, Dwyer will serve a four-year term on the committee, beginning on Sept. 1.
"I am honored to be selected to the skiing committee," Dwyer said, "and I look forward to continuing to move our sport forward with the other members on the committee. We have some interesting proposals coming to us in the near future, and I look forward to providing my insight on these important topics."
Dwyer has enjoyed great success coaching the Big Green women's alpine team with seven of his skiers earning a total of 11 All-America honors at the NCAA Championships during his tenure, including Alexa Dlouhy '18 three times. The 2017 United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association Alpine Coach of the Year arrived in Hanover in 2015 after serving at the prestigious Burke Mountain Academy for six years as the Women's International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski Coach. A U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) Level 200 certified coach, Dwyer coached female students in all levels of FIS, USSA and carnival racing, specializing in individual athlete management to help skiers race at their peak for the biggest regional, national and international events.
During his time at Burke Mountain, Dwyer also traveled with the U.S. World Cup teams (men in 2012, women in 2014) during their preparation for the season opener in Soelden, Austria for professional development. In addition, he helped coach Mikaela Shiffrin to a bronze medal at the 2010 World Junior Championships.
A 1998 graduate of Johnson State College in Johnson, Vermont, Dwyer has a strong technical background in equipment and history of coaching upper-level athletes.
During Dwyer's tenure on the committee, Dartmouth will host the NCAA Skiing Championships in 2025.
