HANOVER, N.H. – The semester is in its second week following a busy summer for the Dartmouth field hockey student-athletes, which included valuable internship and work experiences.
Â
Take a look back to what the Big Green were involved in this summer, in the words of the student-athletes.

"In my role as U.S. Internal Strategy intern at Deloitte (in New York City), I was placed on a project where I researched, analyzed, synthesized and presented information on new strategies that Deloitte might consider adopting/pursuing.Â
I had an amazing experience interning on Deloitte's Internal Strategy team this summer. Going into the summer, my goal was simple: to learn as much as I could. Every day, this goal was relevant as I realized while I was working on my project, that the more I learned and the more information that was out there I didn't know. Each day was exciting, different and full of learning something new, whether that be concrete content, or learning from my fellow interns and colleagues on the team. At the end of the summer, we did a final presentation where I spoke about all the work I had completed over 12 weeks and it was a great culminating ending to my summer. I am excited to return there full-time next year!"

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time interning in Stifel's Wealth Management Division this Summer (as an analyst in New York City), not only because of the nature of my assignments, but also because the workplace community was extremely welcoming. On the day-to-day, I performed market analysis of stock/bond positions, investment returns and asset allocations for our client's portfolios. Additionally, I served as a research analyst for our Disruptive Innovation and Women & Wealth committees, which allowed me to further hone in on the elements of investing that interest me the most.Â
Â
To say that my summer spent in New York City was a learning experience would be an understatement. Luckily, I was fortunate enough to live with three other Dartmouth student-athletes, who were equally as eager to explore the city as I was! Prior to this summer, I was unfamiliar with the city so consequently, I tried to take advantage of any and all opportunities that presented themselves. Whether I was exploring the Met or the MoMA, attending a Broadway show or Yankees game, or indulging in my newest restaurant fixation of the week, I continued to learn and grow as the months progressed.Â
Â
I am extremely grateful for my summer in New York because it empowered me to reach a new level of independence that I had yet to discover. My time spent at Stifel, coupled with my experiences outside of the office, challenged and encouraged me to explore uncharted territory, which I know will bode me well in the years to come."

"This summer, I was an intern at Orange Capital Partners (OCP), a European real estate investment and asset management firm. Specifically, I was an intern within the Investments Team, where I assisted in deal preparation and closing. I worked on financial modeling by computing different financial analyses. I also assisted in writing financial memorandums and memos, and in reading through financial paperwork.
Â
Reflecting back on this summer, I learned so much during my time at OCP, not only from a technical perspective, but also from a social perspective. Besides my newly-improved Excel and PowerPoint skills, I also learned so much from working in a strong and big team environment, where everyone was always willing to help me and answer my questions. I believe that the lessons I learned and the skills I gained will help me tremendously when I start my investment banking internship this upcoming summer in NYC."

"I shadowed a pediatrician at Inwood Village Pediatrics in Dallas, Texas this summer. Over the course of my shadowing, I learned about development marks for different ages, how to identify different illnesses and the routine that doctors go through every day. I believe that this internship helped me solidify my desire to become a pediatrician as well as gave me experience working in a medical field so that I will be more knowledgeable in the future."

"This summer, I worked as a legal intern for Rikard & Protopapas. My job focused on examining archives and documents to find assets of defunct companies to compensate people who had been wronged. I learned creative research strategies to uncover information about defunct companies and received valuable exposure to the legal field throughout the summer."

"I served as a Deals Transformation Intern for PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers), aka management consulting specializing in deals in Boston. In that role, we advise on all parts of a deal – from due diligence, sign to close, and post deal integration. The project I was working on was a post-deal integration project, focused on integrating the trade flow tracking systems of two merging companies. These companies have over a hundred thousand unique trade flows to account for profit in different entities across the world, and the systems keep track of transfer pricing, costing and profit, which credits COGS (cost of goods sold) on the balance sheet.
Â
The project I was on was very specific, so pretty much all aspects of the project from transfer pricing to the systems tracking the trade flows were new to me. I had to get up to speed on the history of the merger very quickly, and learn what operations were in place as we integrated the systems. I also came in at the very end of a two-year project, so we were tightening up the details and making monthly system updates. Overall, it was really interesting learning how companies use transfer pricing to minimize their tax burden, and how complex these systems have become. I took a return offer and will rejoin PwC as a Deals Transformation Associate in Denver next fall."

Major: Neuroscience
Background and Reflection:
"As a summer intern in a neurosurgery research lab at Massachusetts General Brigham, I gained exposure to various functional neurosurgery research projects. My main responsibilities included entering de-identified patient data into the lab's database, performing literature reviews of studies involving specific targets of deep brain stimulation (DBS) and attending lab meetings and clinical conferences. I also was able to observe intraoperative research and neurosurgical procedures that were directly relevant to the laboratory work. As a Neuroscience major at Dartmouth, this was a tremendous opportunity to not only reinforce my interest in the field, but also establish how I will be able to practically utilize what I am learning in my undergraduate classes. Most importantly, being able to contribute as a member of a broad research group was a reminder of how all parts of a team work together towards a common goal - each contributing a unique skillset."

"I worked at Environment Texas, an environmental nonprofit based in Austin, Texas that does work advocating for the environment and sustainability initiatives across Texas. I worked as the Climate Change Intern, and my main project for the summer was a primer on Texas' contributions to, the impacts of, and solutions to climate change in Texas. In addition to this, I assisted with outreach to media outlets and legislative offices regarding different initiatives being launched by Environment Texas.
Â
The chance to work at Environment Texas allowed me to gain further experience in researching and writing, as well as the opportunity to produce a significant report on climate change in Texas. I was also able to visit the capitol building on multiple occasions and gain a deeper understanding of the Texas State Legislature and the policy creation process. These visits to the capital allowed me to further develop the ability to communicate about different issues succinctly and with impact. My internship allowed me to gain insight into the world of environmental policy creation, and to hone my researching, writing and communication skills."

"This summer, I was an intern at law firm Morgan Lewis. I worked with my fellow teammate,
Piper Edwards, and we were able to assist with discovery on cases, sit in on meetings and I even went on a work trip. It was such a great experience that provided insight on what it means to be a lawyer. I am definitely considering law school now!"
