SETTING THE SCENE

Dartmouth scored two straight against the Friars Monday to take a 2-1 third-quarter advantage, but the Friars ended the game with two unanswered for the win. So far this season,
Lila Browne,
Myah Pease and
Bronwyn Bird have accounted for all five goals and 12 of Dartmouth's 13 points. On Monday, Browne and Pease each scored, one off a penalty corner and the other via a penalty stroke. Freshman
Ava Carlson was stellar in goal, making eight saves.

LAST TIME OUT
HANOVER, N.H. (9/5/22) – After falling behind 1-0 early in the second quarter, the Dartmouth field hockey team scored two straight to take a 2-1 lead late into the third, but Providence pulled even at the 41:22 mark and scored the game-winner at 56:42 to spoil the Big Green's home opener, 3-2, on Monday at Chase Field. Dartmouth's goals came from
Lila Browne, her second straight game with a goal, and
Myah Pease. The Big Green remain home on Friday to host Northeastern at 3 p.m.
SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN
Northeastern enters with a 1-2 record, fresh off a 7-0 win over Stonehill. Emilia Adragna was named CAA Rookie of the Week after scoring her second and third goals of the season in that victory. She leads the Huskies in goals (3) and points (7) while Mak Graves (one goal, two assists) and Emmy Stubbs (two goals) each have four points apiece. Graves is Northeastern's leading returning scorer after 10 goals and 21 points in 2021.
The Huskies' losses have come against No. 22 Ohio State (4-0) and UAlbany (5-2). Jonna Kennedy has started all three goals in goal, tallying a 3.32 goals against average and 76.9 save percentage. Northeastern came in at No. 2 in the preseason CAA poll.
Last season, Northeastern finished 7-12, including 3-3 in the conference. The Huskies lost a 2-1 overtime heartbreaker in the CAA Semifinals at top-seeded JMU.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE HUSKIES
Northeastern leads the all-time series against Dartmouth, 15-2, with the Huskies winning the most recent meeting on Sept. 24, 2021 by a 3-0 final. Dartmouth's last win came on Oct. 10, 1987 behind a 3-2 final. Northeastern has won 13 straight in the series overall.
SCOUTING SACRED HEART
Sacred Heart stands 0-3 on the young season, with losses vs. Syracuse (5-0), Vermont (4-1) and at Georgetown (3-2 in overtime). Against the Hoyas, Emma Brayford scored with no time remaining in regulation to help Sacred Heart force overtime. It was Brayford's second goal and fourth point of the season, both tops on the team. Lizzie Mendrzycki, who assisted that game-tying goal, owns a team-leading two assists. Samantha Maresca has started all three games in goal, recording a 52.2 save percentage.
Last season, Sacred Heart finished 2-16, with both wins coming in the NEC – over Bryant and Merrimack, both 4-3 finals in overtime. Isabell Chamberlain, who tied for the team lead in points a season ago with six (two goals, two assists), returns. Sacred Heart was predicted sixth in the preseason NEC poll.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE PIONEERS
Dartmouth is 3-1 all-time against Sacred Heart with the teams last meeting in 2018 – a 3-2 Pioneers' win on Sept. 14. The Big Green won the first three meetings in the series – Sept. 2, 2011 (5-0), Sept. 18, 2015 (8-1) and Sept. 8, 2016 (3-0).
GREAT START!
Junior
Lila Browne has enjoyed a strong start to the season, recording a point in each of her first three games. Browne assisted on Lehigh's first goal of the season at No. 22 Maine, scored by
Bronwyn Bird, then scored goals vs. Quinnipiac and against Providence. It marked Browne's second two-game goal streak and three-game point streak of her career, the other coming last Sept. 12-19. Browne had an assist against Bryant before scoring a goal vs. Vermont and tallying a goal and assist against Merrimack.Â
Since 2015, Browne is the only Dartmouth player to record a point in each of the first three games of the season.
THAT MAINE SUCCESS
In the season opener at No. 22 Maine (a 5-2 loss), the Big Green finished with their most goals scored against Maine since the 2017 season — a 5-3 loss at home on Sept. 17, 2017. The two goals were Dartmouth's most against a nationally-ranked opponent since scoring twice against No. 19 Boston College on Sept. 13, 2019. The Big Green scored their most goals at Maine since the 2016 season, while the goal differential (-3) was their best at Maine since 2014.
WELCOME, COACHES!
This August, head field hockey coach
Mark Egner announced the additions of
Tanner Ridgely and
Jen Callahan to his coaching staff as assistant coach and volunteer assistant, respectively. They join
Maggie Reddecliff to round out the staff.
Ridgely arrives in Hanover after spending the 2021-22 academic year as a volunteer assistant coach with the Towson field hockey program. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in sport and recreation management with a minor in general business from James Madison University in 2021. While at James Madison, Ridgely spent three seasons on the field hockey team. She has also been a head coach for the Warhawks Field Hockey Club since November 2020.
Â
No stranger to the Upper Valley, Callahan brings a wealth of coaching experience to Dartmouth. After a decorated four-year playing career at the University of Vermont, she got her start in coaching at Lehigh as a graduate assistant and moved up the ranks to be the transitional head coach in early 2011. After Lehigh, Callahan took the reins of the American International College field hockey program, leading the Yellow Jackets to the semifinals of the NE10 Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament during the 2011 season. Callahan spent nearly a decade with the USA Field Hockey Futures Program and has recently served as a Lebanon recreation volunteer coach in soccer, field hockey and lacrosse. A 2009 graduate of Vermont with a bachelor's degree in elementary education, Callahan went on to receive a master's degree in teaching and learning from Lehigh in 2011. She also holds a USA Field Hockey Level II Developmental Coaching Accreditation and a USA Field Hockey Level I Coaching Accreditation.

THIRD IN THE NATION!
Last February, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced the recipients of the 2021 Division I National Academic Team Awards. Dartmouth, along with 78 other programs, were honored with the distinction, presented to programs that earn a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester of the 2021-22 school year.
Â
The Big Green's 3.76 team GPA ranked third in the entire nation and top amongst the Ivies, just beating out Brown's 3.75 team GPA.
Â
"I am in awe of this achievement by each of the athletes on our roster," said head coach
Mark Egner. "For the past number of years our athletes have sustained this standard of academic success. This is something that is incredibly important as we strive to provide the premier student-athlete experience."
