HAMDEN, Conn. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team fell to No. 2 Quinnipiac, 3-0, in ECAC Hockey action on Friday evening at the M&T Bank Arena. Dartmouth moves to 2-12-1, 1-6-1 while Quinnipiac improves to 16-1-3, 11-0-0 on the season.
Cooper Black finished with 40 saves, marking the second time he has finished with at least 40 saves in a game this season. The Big Green blocked a season-high 28 shots.
Ethan de Jong scored two goals for the Bobcats. CJ McGee scored the other goal while Skyler Brind'Amour had two assists.
Quinnipiac outshot Dartmouth 43-14 and held a 34-25 edge in faceoffs.
The Big Green nearly opened the scoring in the first 50 seconds.
Sean Chisholm forced a turnover in front of the Quinnipiac goal and fired a shot that was saved by Yaniv Perets.
Cooper Flinton followed up the loose puck but was unable to put it home.
The Bobcats started putting on the pressure, forcing Black to make six saves in the opening few minutes. Quinnipiac found the back of the net 5:44 into the period to take a 1-0 lead. McGee added to the Quinnipiac lead just 17 seconds later, giving the Big Green a 2-0 deficit.
Quinnipiac extended their lead inside the opening two minutes of the second period when de Jong scored his second of the night. Black made several key stops towards the end of the second frame to keep the score the same.
The third period was a defensive battle as Quinnipiac held the edge in shots on goal, 9-6. Four of the Big Green's shots on goal came in the final four minutes as they looked to chip away at the deficit. Dartmouth played the final 3:29 of the game with an empty net but their attempts on goal were steered away by Perets.
Dartmouth is back in action tomorrow with an ECAC Hockey and Ivy League tilt at Princeton. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
