PRINCETON, N.J. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team fell to Princeton, 4-2, in ECAC Hockey and Ivy League action on Saturday evening at Hobey Baker Rink. Dartmouth moves to 2-13-1, 1-7-1 while Princeton improves to 8-9-0, 6-7-0 on the season.
John Fusco and
Matt Hubbarde both scored for the Big Green.
Braiden Dorfman assisted on both goals while
Luke Haymes and
Sean Keohan both had their first assist of the season.
Cooper Black finished with 25 saves while the Big Green blocked 16 shots.
Ian Murphy scored twice for the Tigers and Liam Gorman and Nick Seitz each scored once. Nick Carabin provided two assists.
The Big Green opened the scoring late in the first period. After earning a power play opportunity, Dartmouth won the faceoff in the offensive zone and scored just eight seconds into the PP. Haymes laid it off for Fusco, who fired a shot from the blue line through the Princeton defense and into the back of the net for his third goal of the season.
Princeton scored its first goal of the night less than a minute later to tie the game. Gorman redirected a shot from in front of the crease past Black. The Tigers added to their lead 64 seconds into the second frame. A turnover from the Big Green in the neutral zone allowed Murphy to get the loose puck and skate towards goal to put Princeton ahead.
Dartmouth tied things up midway through the second period as Hubbarde scored his fourth goal of the season. Keohan struck a shot from the blue line towards goal, and it was tipped by Hubbarde past Princeton goaltender Ethan Pearson.
Princeton gained the lead back four minutes later when Seitz scored a short-handed goal. The Big Green piled on the pressure in the third in search of the equalizer. The Tigers took advantage late in the game to seal the victory with an empty net goal.
Princeton held a 29-24 edge in shots on goal, but the Big Green outshot the Tigers 11-4 in the third period.
Dartmouth returns to Thompson Arena next weekend for a pair of ECAC Hockey matchups. The Big Green take on St. Lawrence on Friday evening at 8 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. tilt on Saturday against Clarkson. Both games will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
