LAST TIME OUT
Coming off wins over Cornell and Columbia, Dartmouth picked up where it left off with a three-set win over Penn, marking the Big Green's fourth straight over the Quakers dating back to the middle of the 2021 season. Dartmouth's three-match win streak was snapped the following evening as Princeton left Leede Arena with hard-fought 3-1 victory.
Kauany Gutz recorded a team-high 21 kills between both matches and
Amelia Gibbs put together an efficient 16-kill weekend (.359). Gibbs hit .400 with seven kills against Penn and put up four total blocks.
Â
MURPHY HITS 1,000
Senior setter
Karen Murphy entered the weekend needing 12 assists to reach 1,000 on her career and hit that milestone early in the Princeton match. She's the ninth in program history to reach quadruple digits and is the second current player, joining
Makenzie Arent (1,897), whose career assist total ranks fourth in program history.
Â
GIBBS' ON PACE FOR HISTORIC HITTING PERCENTAGE
More than halfway through the season,
Amelia Gibbs is hitting .376, which ranks third in the Ivy League and would be the best single season hitting percentage in program history. That record would put a bow on the senior's impressive career, which has already featured two of the three most efficient seasons in program history (.356 in 2022, which ranks second, and .348 in 2021, which ranks third.) Annie Villanueva '12 has the record with her .372 mark set in 2011.
Â
BACK ON THE BIG SCREEN
The Big Green are not strangers to national television. Last year's win over Penn, which aired on ESPNU, was one of the highlights along Dartmouth's journey to the inaugural four-team Ivy League Tournament. The camera was especially kind to eventual All-Ivy Second Teamer
Ellie Blain, who racked up a match-high 13 kills on just 23 attempts (.435).
Â
LOOKING AHEAD
Dartmouth's three-match stretch of facing each of the top three finishers in last year's Ivy League standings comes to a close when the Big Green travel to Harvard on Saturday, Oct. 21 looking to avenge a four-set home loss in the Ivy League opener. After finishing fifth last season and being picked fifth in the preseason poll, the Crimson are off to a 4-1 start in the Ancient Eight with a signature win over Princeton to their credit.
