SEASON-OPENING WEEKEND
The Dartmouth men's hockey team officially opens the 2023-24 season this weekend with games against No. 17 Harvard and UNH. The Big Green play Harvard at Thompson Arena on Friday at 7 p.m. before making the trip to Durham on Saturday for a 7 p.m. puck drop against UNH.
Dartmouth played the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (USNTDP) in an exhibition on Sunday, Oct. 15. The Big Green claimed a 7-2 victory in their final tune-up.
LOOKING BACK AT LAST SEASON
The Big Green finished the season with a 5-24-1 overall record and a 4-17-1 record in ECAC Hockey play. Dartmouth opened its home slate on a high note, picking up a 6-0 win over Yale followed by a shootout victory against Brown the following night.
Playing the Bulldogs in a non-conference game in the Ledyard Classic, the Big Green claimed a 4-3 win to close out the calendar year.
They picked up their first weekend sweep on the road at Brown (4-3) and Yale (4-0) in late January. Dartmouth then finished its home schedule just like they started, with a win, this time coming against Union on senior day.
Cooper Black made the ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team after starting all 22 league contests between the pipes, making 596 saves with a .909 save percentage and 2.81 goals against average.
Dartmouth is returning four of the top scorers from last year's team.
Braiden Dorfman finished with 7 goals and 10 assists (7-10-17).
Luke Haymes had 16 points (11-5-16) while
Cooper Flinton finished with 15 points (6-9-15) and
Sean Chisholm tallied 14 points (7-7-14).
THE CAPTAIN
Chisholm has been handed the "C" and will serve as the captain of the Big Green for the 2023-24 season.
The 123
rd captain in program history, Chisholm has played in 61 games and accumulated 37 points (16-21-37).
NEW FACES
The Big Green added seven freshmen to the program ahead of the season:

CJ Foley,
Matt Fusco,
Nikita Nikora and
Oskari Vuorio.
SCOUTING HARVARD
This will be the first game of the year for Harvard. The Crimson did play one exhibition, falling to UMass Lowell 1-0. They are ranked No. 17 in the latest DCU/USCHO national poll.
Harvard is coming off a 24-8-2 season a year ago with an 18-4-0 conference record, finishing second in the league while making it to the ECAC Hockey championship game. The Crimson also advanced to the NCAA Tournament, falling to Ohio State in the opening round.
Harvard returns its fifth-best scorer, Joe Miller, who had 28 points last season with 13 goals and 15 goals. Defenseman Ryan Healey, along with Miller, are back with the Crimson after having been named to the ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team last season.
The Big Green are 65-146-13 all-time against the Crimson with a 34-58-5 record at home. Harvard swept the season series last year, taking a 5-2 win in Cambridge in the season opener before claiming a 6-3 win at Thompson in February.
SCOUTING UNH
UNH enters the weekend with a 2-1-0 overall record and 1-0-0 record in Hockey East. The Wildcats are coming off a split weekend against No. 4 Quinnipiac, including a 5-4 overtime victory on Saturday. They will take on Northeastern on Thursday at the Whittemore Center in Hockey East action.
UNH defeated national No. 1 Boston University in the season opener, 6-4.
Cy LeClerc and Morgan Winters both have three goals each for the Wildcats. Ryan Conmy currently has five assists while Robert Cronin and Liam Devlin each have three.
Tyler Muszelik has played all three games in net thus far for UNH. He has made 76 saves and boasts a .864 save percentage and a 3.92 goals against average.
The Big Green are 22-38-3 all-time against the Wildcats. Dartmouth won the previous meeting between the two teams, a 3-1 victory on the first day of the Ledyard Classic in the 2021-22 season. The Big Green have gone 0-3-1 in their last four trips to Durham, with their last win coming in a 9-8 victory on Jan. 12, 2005.

WHAT'S AHEAD
Dartmouth returns to Thompson Arena for its first full ECAC Hockey weekend next Friday and Saturday. The Big Green will take on defending national champion Quinnipiac on Friday at 5 p.m. before playing host to Princeton on Saturday at 7 p.m. Both games will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
