WITH A WIN...
- The Big Green would win a second Ivy League game in the same season for the first time since 2018.
- Dartmouth would finish 2-5 in Ivy League play, which would be good for sixth place in the standings, its highest finish since 2018 when the Big Green were tied for fifth.
- The Big Green would improve to 16-10 all-time against Columbia.
- Dartmouth would snap a three-game losing streak vs. Columbia and beat the Lions for the first time since 2018, a 2-1 win at Columbia.
- The Big Green would beat Columbia at home for the first time since 2017, a 3-2 win. Since that point, the teams have only played twice in Hanover (with Saturday being the third time).
- Dartmouth would finish the season 6-9, its most wins in a season since 2018 when it finished 6-11.
- The Big Green would double last season's win total.
- Dartmouth would finish the season three games under .500, the closest to .500 since 2017 (when the Big Green were 7-10).
- Dartmouth would end the year with single-digit losses for the first time since 2012 (when it finished 11-6).
- The Big Green would post their fourth home win of the season, which would be their most since 2017.
- Dartmouth would finish with a 4-3 home record, marking its first winning season at home since 2014.
LAST TIME OUT...
- Trailing 2-0 at the half, the Dartmouth field hockey team doubled up No. 19 UMass in second-half shots, but couldn't get one past Minutewomen goalkeeper Brooke Richards in a 3-0 loss on Sunday afternoon.
- Among the Big Green's best second-half chances saw senior
Bronwyn Bird go coast-to-coast through the UMass defense, but her shot in the circle was saved by Richards.
ALL-TIME VS. COLUMBIA
Dartmouth leads the all-time series with Columbia, 15-10, but the Lions have won three straight. Last season, the Big Green were leading 1-0 heading into the final minute, but Columbia stormed back with two goals to stun Dartmouth, 2-1. Each of the last five games have been one-goal games, with the Big Green winning in 2017 and 2018 (via 3-2 and 2-1 finals). The 2017 meeting was Dartmouth's last win in the series in Hanover.
SCOUTING COLUMBIA
Columbia stands 3-11 on the season and 0-6 in the Ivy League, but the Lions have lost a number of close games. Most recently, Columbia dropped a 1-0 final vs. Yale, one game after a 2-0 defeat against Brown. The Lions began the season 3-5, with wins over Monmouth, Lafayette and Rider, but have lost six straight since. First year Mckenzie Bloom leads the team in goals (5) while standing tied for first in points (11). Lindsey Yu also has 11 points behind four goals and three assists (also tied for the team lead). Katie Wimmer has started 13 of the 14 games in goal, recording a 2.10 goals against average and 74.5 save percentage. Columbia has one more game this season after Saturday, traveling to UNH on Sunday to face the Wildcats.
PRINCETON NOTEWORTHY
- The Big Green dropped a slim 2-1 final to Princeton last weekend, but there were a number of noteworthy stats to come out of it.
- Dartmouth first year Lucia Campaño scored in the fourth quarter, marking the Big Green's first goal vs. the Tigers since 2015.
- Campaño became Dartmouth player with a goal in four straight games since Katie Spanos in September of 2018.
- Campaño is up to six goals on the season, the most by a Dartmouth first year since Carmen Braceras had seven in 2016.
ODDS AND ENDS
- Dartmouth has scored 27 goals this season in 14 games, after scoring 27 in 17 all of last season. Prior to that, the Big Green scored 18 in 2021 and 31 in 2019, with 17 games in each of those seasons.
- The Big Green have two overtime wins in the same season for the first time since 2019. The last time they had three was in 2005 (two in overtime and one that ended in penalty strokes).
- Dartmouth has had four games go to overtime this season for the first time since 2019 (when the Big Green had six). Going back to the regular season finale last season, five of the last 15 regular season games have gone to overtime.
- This season's shootout vs. Sacred Heart was Dartmouth's first since the 2021 season opener, which was head coach
Mark Egner's debut at UC Davis and also a Big Green victory.
- Sophomore
Olivia Galiotos stands all alone in third nationally in defensive saves (6). It's the most by a Big Green player since Cecelia Monnin had seven in 2019.
BOWMAN HONORED AFTER BROWN WIN
Following a tremendous performance against Brown, first year
Ella Bowman has been named Ivy League Co-Defensive Player of the Week, as announced on Monday, Oct. 2. Bowman scored both Big Green goals in Dartmouth's 2-0 win over Brown, the program's first Ivy League win since 2018. On the other end of the field, Bowman is a starting center back who plays every minute, helping the Big Green post their first shutout since 2021 and Ivy League shutout since 2012.
