CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Dartmouth women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Harvard, 3-0, in Ivy League action on Wednesday evening at Jordan Field in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Dartmouth falls to 7-1-3, 2-1-0 for the season while Harvard improves to 7-3-1, 2-1-0.
"Credit to Harvard, they are a top five offense in the country for a reason," said Stacy and Nick Branca Family Head Coach of Women's Soccer
Taylor Schram. "They came out flying tonight. I thought we fought them off well in the first half. We had a good chance early on in the game and if that goes down then maybe it's a different second half."
The Big Green found themselves trailing for the first time this season just before halftime as Jasmine Leshnick scored a bicycle kick inside the box with 12.6 seconds remaining in the opening half to give Harvard a 1-0 lead.
The Crimson scored twice in the second half to push the lead to 3-0. Hannah Bebar scored in the 73
rd minute of play and Audrey Francois followed that up in the 76
th minute.
The Big Green's best chance of the night came with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half.
Sydney Brown had the ball down near the endline inside the Harvard penalty box, and passed it back across the front of goal, but it was too far in front of the outstretched foot of
Jaidyn Curry, and Harvard goalkeeper Anna Karpenko collected the loose ball.
Emily Hardy made a career-high 10 saves in goal for the Big Green. Harvard finished with 13 shots on goal and eight corner kicks.
Dartmouth returns to Burnham Field on Sunday afternoon for an Ivy League contest against Columbia. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be available to stream nationally on ESPN+ and internationally on Stretch Internet. Single-game tickets are available for purchase through the Dartmouth Athletics Ticket Office.
Notes: Dartmouth's 10-game unbeaten run to start the season is the longest in program history… Entering the match, the Big Green were one of just three teams in Division I that hadn't trailed all season.
