Big Green Down Georgetown for First Victory of the Season

Dartmouth picked up a convincing 8-1 win at a neutral site

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The 11th-ranked Dartmouth women's squash team collected its first victory of the 2023-24 season with a convincing 8-1 win over Georgetown at the University of Virginia's McArthur Squash Center. The Big Green evened their record at 1-1 on the season while the Hoyas dropped to 2-3.

Three of the Dartmouth eight victories went in straight sets — senior Priya Verma at No. 4, sophomore Callie Worth at No. 8 and first-year Zayna Usman at No. 9. Both Worth and Usman finished off their matches with dominating 11-1 third sets.

Junior Chelsea Cho, senior Emily Schuster and first-year Nathalie Taylor each won their matches by a 3-1 count at Nos. 3, 6, and 7, respectively.

It took five sets to decide the matches at Nos. 1 and 5. Sophomore Maria Clara Ramirez took the first two before her opponent, Georgetown's top player Jesse Brownell, rallied to win the next to before Ramirez put the match away, 11-5. At No. 5, senior Ellie Burke had her work cut out for her after falling behind with close losses in the first two sets (15-13 and 13-11). But she dug in her heels to take the next three and claim the point.

In an exhibition match, junior Aubrey Lennon also won in five sets.

The Big Green women take on the seventh-ranked Cavaliers tomorrow at 11 a.m. to wrap up their weekend trip to Virginia.
