OXFORD, OHIO — The Dartmouth women's swimming and diving team placed third with 722.5 points in the Miami Invitational, which concluded on Saturday. The Big Green finished fifth at last year's invitational and saw a 344.5-point improvement in this season's iteration.
"It was exciting to see so many of our women handle challenge really well at this meet," said head coach
Milana Socha. "From hard doubles, to caps falling off, to illness/injury, they stayed behind their teammates and left it all in the pool, resulting in a team record, NCAA B standard, numerous lifetime bests and many new top-10 program times.Â
They scored just over 300 more points from last year and moved up in the rankings, showing competitive growth. I look forward to getting back after it to see what more we can build before championship season!"
Â
Julianne Jones was a big part of Dartmouth's improvement. The sophomore won the 200 IM on Thursday, broke a program record in the 400 IM on Friday and continued on Saturday with a podium finish (third) in the 200 breast with a time of 2:17.53.
Â
Jamieson Legh, one of the many first-years who made an impact for the Big Green across the three-day event, placed second in the 200 fly (2:00.97).
Â
Miami (Ohio) won the invitational with 1172.5 points and Indiana State (835) was second. Grand Canyon trailed Dartmouth with 710 points to round out the top four in the team rankings.
Â
The Big Green are back in action on Sunday, Dec. 17 when they head to Florida for CSCAA Open Water Nationals. Fans can catch Dartmouth at Karl Michael Pool on Saturday, Jan. 6 when Bates visits for a dual meet.
